Early Architecture
Imagine going back in time to Mesopotamia. You might expect to see people living in caves, or maybe tepees. If this is what you thought, you would be surprised to hear Mesopotamians built homes and other buildings. Although their architecture is far less advanced than ours, it was the first step towards our modern architecture.
Religious Architecture

In Mesopotamia everyone had a house no matter how rich or how poor they were. In Mesopotamia every house was at least three stories, Which is quite a bit of space if you ask me! The first floor was a courtyard and entryway, This was the floor where the children played. The second and third floor was where the family lived, I bet you everyone had their own bedroom! All homes had flat roofs in Mesopotamia, and they were made out of mud bricks. These homes are probably more advanced than the caves and tepees you may have thought these homes would be like!

The Mesopotamians built few structures, but a couple religious structures they built were ziggurats and temples. ziggurats were stepped towers, which included a worship area with large carved human sculptures. Temples mainly served religious purposes. Temples were also houses for the local deity. These are some of the few structures they built, but these religious structures lead to our modern day churches, which is a big part of our modern day lives.
