Imagine having to worship and please gods everyday of your life. Everybody in ancient Mesopotamia was responsible for pleasing the the gods. Ancient Mesopotamia believes in a polytheistic (multiple gods) religion. They brought them food, drinks, and materials. They thought that if the gods were angry, they did something wrong. They then worshipped even more to please the gods. People also thought that if they were responsible, no matter how responsible to something bad happening to someone else, then they thought the gods would be very angry. Once everything was fine, people thought they did enough to please the gods.
People worshipped in ziggurats(Giant structures like temples or pyramids). Ziggurats were made for one god and was made in the center of the city. Patron gods had the biggest and grandest ziggurats. The gods were thought actually live inside of the ziggurats. People also created stone figures with clasped hands to put in ziggurats. Everybody worshipped in ziggurats, brought the gods food, drink and material, and did good deeds to others.
