Why They Came
There are many amazing features of Mesopotamia that attracted people to live there. One of the biggest reasons people were attracted there was because of the life-giving rivers. These rivers were one of the only sources of water because the area was dry and there was little rain. These rivers provided them many resources such as fish, and of course water. With this water they were not only able to supply everyone with water to drink, but they could also use this water for crops. So the water could aldo feed the people.
Some other things that brought more people to live there were their natural resources. Some of these natural resources are stones, clay, and metal. THese resources helped them with many of their daily needs. For example, they could use the clay the make pottery. Another natural resource that they had plenty of was timber. With timber they were able to build huts and building for everyone to live in. They could also build many technology that could help them in their daily life.
Finally the floodplains helped them very much. The floodplains were these huge fields that would flood often making the soil very rich. The Sumerians needed rich soil to grow their crops, which was a big part of their food supply. They depended very much on crops so being able to grow lots of them in rich soil was very helpful for them.
